JOB REQUIREMENTS
Depending on what kind of job you are applying for, and when you are applying, there will be more or less requirements, and there will be varying levels of competitiveness. For example, bigger city departments are incredibly competitive and often require more specific skills due to the urban setting. It is not uncommon to have 1,000+ applicants in those areas.

The bigger the city, the more likely they are to have specific requirements. This is because it becomes more competitive, but bigger cities can also require more skills due to the taller buildings, tighter spaces, etc. that make rescue and fighting a fire more complicated and technical.
